EMERALD 09/07/2018

EMERALD 9th JULY 2018

An over night stay at Emerald before our longest drive to
Charters Towers.

We slept under the railway line near the Botanical  Gardens in Emerald. A popular free campsite,  glad they were doing line work, or we may not of gotten any sleep.

TOWN OF RAVENSWOOD

The first thing you notice when you enter the town of Ravenswood are the many tall chimney stacks six in total around the town.
Ravenswood is about 89 kilometres (55 mi) from Charters Towers

Once a thriving  gold mining town, it is now almost a ghost town with two pubs at either end of the main street, a post office and general store combined, and the court house which is now a museum, the original school building, many old mines.

The mullock heaps, the old shafts, the chimneys, the rusting machinery and the historic buildings make it an informative journey into a once-thriving and booming gold mining town.

BIGGENDEN 3rd Feb - 17th Feb 2018

Our alternative place of stay from Miva,  was Biggenden  a tiny town which lies below the rugged cliffs of Mount Walsh.
Biggenden is a town in the North Burnett Region, . It is on the Isis Highway 339 kilometres  north-west of Brisbane, and 84 kilometres  west of Maryborough.

We found there was a lot to look at in and around Biggenden, and we spent many a day driving and exploring the many dirt roads and national parks.

walking was my favorite past time and many an afternoon we would both walk around the town of Biggenden, passing the iron sculptures that where in the main street. The weather was so hot as it was summer time, many an afternoon we would watch the clouds roll in looking rather grey thinking we would get rain only to have them go around the mountain and we then would watch the lightning in the distance. We did however get a couple of good downpours.

Gin Gin Qld 05-19th June 2018

Gin Gin   5th - 19th June 2018

Stayed in the showgrounds at Gin Gin for two weeks,
not a lot to do in Gin Gin but a very pleasant tidy town.

On the first day we arrived there was all the van from the Gin Gin show , one of the vans was three times the length of ours, see photo.

We had a couple of foggy mornings too and the over night temp dropped to single figures.

Many a night we would walk down to the big Puma trucking stop and watch all the different trucks pulling in and out.

We played bowls one Friday night as a social game but only 4 people turned up, there were more inside drinking than playing bowls.
